Peer Review Process

JLAIS operates a double-anonymous peer-review process: the identities of authors and reviewers are withheld from one another throughout. Our aim is a fair, rigorous and timely assessment of every manuscript on scholarly merit alone.

How a submission is handled

  • 1 · Editorial screening. Each submission is first checked by the editorial office for scope, completeness, ethical compliance and similarity. Out-of-scope or non-compliant manuscripts may be desk-rejected at this stage with a brief explanation.
  • 2 · Assignment. In-scope manuscripts are assigned to a handling editor with relevant subject expertise.
  • 3 · Independent review. The handling editor invites at least two independent expert reviewers. Reviewers assess originality, methodological soundness, clarity, significance and adherence to ethical standards.
  • 4 · Decision. On the basis of reviewer reports and the editor's own reading, one of the following decisions is reached: accept, minor revision, major revision, or reject.
  • 5 · Revision & re-review. Revised manuscripts may be returned to the original reviewers. Final acceptance rests with the handling editor and the Editor-in-Chief.

Timelines

We target a first editorial decision within approximately two to four weeks of submission, subject to reviewer availability. Authors are kept informed of status through the submission system. As JLAIS is a new journal, these timelines are targets rather than guarantees and will be reported transparently as our track record builds.

Reviewer conduct & conflicts of interest

Reviewers and editors must treat manuscripts as confidential, must not use unpublished material for their own purposes, and must declare any competing interests and recuse themselves where a conflict exists. We welcome new reviewers — see the Editorial & Referee Application page.

Use of generative-AI tools in review

Reviewers may not upload submitted manuscripts to external generative-AI or large-language-model services, as doing so would breach confidentiality. Any assistance used in preparing a review must be disclosed to the editor.
