Editorial Policy

Publication Ethics & Malpractice Statement

Journal of Law, Artificial Intelligence and Society (JLAIS) is committed to the highest standards of publication ethics. Our policies follow the principles and flowcharts of the Committee on Publication Ethics (COPE) and apply to authors, reviewers, editors and the publisher alike.

Duties of authors

  • Originality & integrity: manuscripts must be original, unpublished, and not under consideration elsewhere. Data must be accurate; fabrication, falsification and image manipulation are unacceptable.
  • Authorship: all listed authors must have made a substantial contribution and approved the final manuscript. Honorary and ghost authorship are not permitted.
  • Disclosure: all sources of funding and any financial or personal conflicts of interest must be declared.
  • Generative AI: any use of generative-AI or large-language-model tools must be disclosed in the methods or acknowledgements. AI tools cannot be listed as authors and authors remain fully responsible for all content.

Duties of reviewers

  • Maintain confidentiality, provide objective and constructive assessments, identify relevant uncited work, and flag any ethical concern or substantial similarity to the editor.
  • Declare competing interests and decline review where impartiality cannot be assured.

Duties of editors

  • Decide which submissions are published on the basis of scholarly merit and scope, free from discrimination, and manage conflicts of interest fairly.
  • Investigate concerns and take corrective action — corrections, expressions of concern, or retractions — in line with COPE guidance.

Misconduct, corrections & retractions

Allegations of misconduct (plagiarism, data fabrication or falsification, redundant or duplicate publication, citation manipulation, undisclosed conflicts, or authorship disputes) are investigated following COPE flowcharts. Where warranted, the journal will publish a correction, an expression of concern, or a retraction, linked clearly to the original article. See also our Plagiarism Policy.

Complaints and appeals should be addressed to the editorial office at jlais@aiagepress.com; unresolved matters may be escalated to the Editor-in-Chief.
